‘Boro provide tough test for Shildon

Shildon AFC met their sternest pre-season test when Middlesbrough U23s came calling to Dean Street on Tuesday evening.

The match had been arranged as part of the deal which saw former Shildon star player, Lewis Wing, sign for the Championship side at the end of last season.

And it was the former player who came back to haunt his old teammates, scoring a goal each half in a 3-0 win for the professional outfit, who had several players on show who had just returned from a spell of training with the first team in Portugal the previous week.

Shildon will have learned some valuable pre-season lessons from their encounter and continue their preparations for the new campaign with a visit to

Nottingham on 21st and 22nd July, where they will play two games in two days against Basford United and Selston respectively.

Both matches will be played at Basford United’s Greenwich Avenue ground. Friday’s encounter kicks off at 7.30pm with the Saturday game at 3pm.

The following week, on 29th July they travel to Seaham Red Star (3pm) before completing pre-season at home against Guisborough on Monday 31st July at 7.30pm.
