Prince Bishops pupils donate to local children

The pupils at Prince Bishops Primary School in Coundon Grange were busy thinking of others last week.

Each year, the school takes part in Children in Need, but this year they decided to help local families by donating to Shildon Alive! Foodbank.

Pupils and their families responded to the call from the school with an overwhelming display of kindness and generosity.

Prince Bishops Head Teacher, Lynn George said: “We support Children in Need every year as the help and support it gives poorly and disadvantaged children is amazing.

“This year, however, we received a request from a parent who asked if we could do something a little different and directly help children in our local area by asking families to donate food and other essential items for a food bank.

“Life is particularly tough for many families at the moment and, in the run up to Christmas, the food bank can make all the difference.

“Even though many of our families struggle themselves, we have been completely overwhelmed by their response.

“The amount of goods collected was staggering and demonstrated the kind and generous spirit we have in our community.”

Shildon Alive! coordinator, Paula Nelson added: “We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the children, parents and staff at Prince Bishops Primary School. They are all amazing.

“Their donations will help so many families who are in crisis in Shildon, Eldon Lane and Dene Valley.”

Anyone in need of help should contact Paula Nelson and her team at St. John’s Church Community Project, Shildon Alive.
